Katy Keene Look book

Hello, and welcome to my blog! I have recently started to watch Katy Keene, and I am so in love with her fashion style! Although this is a look book, I won’t be trying to recreate any of her outfits, instead I will be taking inspiration from her and applying it to my own wardrobe (but let me know if that’s something you would like to see). Without further a do, here are the outfits!

Outfit #1

For this first outfit I chose to pair my gingham dress (as seen on Five versatile outfits from a single dress) with my pink cherry top (also seen on How to style a graphic top), as the design cannot be seen underneath. I also wore it with my DKNY bag (I talk more about this here – My Birthday OOTD) and a pair of super cute white sunnies in the shape of a heart. I really think this outfit captures Katy Keene’s pink aesthetic, though I do believe she would wear it with some red – possibly a cape or heels?

Outfit #2

I chose to pair the same cherry top as before with pair of tapered navy trousers. I think this one screams what Katy would were in college, especially with the fjallraven kanken (and especially in that colour!) I also layered a collared shirt underneath to add to the preppy vibes, which would also be really warm and cosy in the autumn and winter (but sweltering on a sunny day like today!).

Outfit #3

For this outfit, I went for some fondant fancy vibes! I think that Katy would wear this with a cherry collar and a red bag, but it definitely does cater to her candyfloss pink style. I really do love this outfit and I think it’s perfect for a summers day.

Outfit #4

I decided to pair my embroidered strawberry shorts with a button down shirt. This is definitely my take on the cherry vibes Katy has and I think the cinched waist with the bow detail really adds to the look. I also wore it with my Cath Kidston floral bowler bag, which is definitely more my vibes than Katy’s, but it works well. The sleeves on the shirt were rolled up and the collar was popped to make it more weather appropriate for the summer.

In conclusion…

I am so excited to continue watching the show and become entranced in her glorious outfits. This post has really made me realise that I don’t own a single red thing in my wardrobe, and you know what that calls for – a haul! (black Friday anyone?) Thank you so much for reading and supporting my blog, feel free to leave comments, likes and shares – I truly appreciate each and every one of them.

My Birthday OOTD

Hello and welcome to my blog! It was my birthday yesterday, and of course I had to dress up, even if it was just for a pub dinner! So, today I will be giving you a run down on my birthday outfit…

The Dress

Cath Kidston or Cath Kidston?

I found this dress in the battleground and claustrophobia trigger (cue the Gemma Collins clip) that is the topshop sales rack. My first thought was that it was so kitsch and Cath Kidston-y that I had to buy it. Although this dress cannot be layered, it in one that is versatile in itself (See Five versatile outfits from a single dress for more), as it can be worn with a pair of sandals or heels in the summer, and paired with tights and ankle boots in the winter. Although at first I was weary of the fact that it did not cinch in the waist, I was quite shocked to see how flattering the fit of it was and I expect it shall be on everybody (and I especially love the keyhole detail at the back!). The cut is gorgeous and the fact that it is petite is perfect for us short girlies, but probably not for the six foot stunners who will most certainly flash a bum cheek or two with this one!

The shoes

Of course I had to wear my most favourite shoes – the pink docs. I adore how cute these shoes are, as well as the fact that they are quite different and alternative due to the punk style. I think its always good to spice things up and go for a bold colour (or in this case pastel), as they are very eye catching and I have gotten the most compliments on these – even from a workman in the street! Just make sure the colour goes with lots of things in your wardrobe and you will be good to go.

The accessories

I wore the dress with two lovely gifts I received for my birthday. The necklace is so stunning and different to anything else I have seen on the market and is my signature style – pearls! I also wore my pink DKNY leather bag I received as a gift and I am so in love! I had really wanted an investment bag that would last me a very long time, however do not feel like you need to buy the most expensive bag on the market, just whatever your budget can stretch to. I absolutely love these gifts and I cannot be more excited to wear them in the future!

In conclusion…

I had a wonderful birthday and appreciate all the kind words, cards and presents that I received on the day, they made me very happy! Thank you for reading my blog and as always feel free to leave suggestions, likes, shares – I will be very grateful for them.

XOXO

How to style a graphic top

As you can see, the jumper pictured above has been designed quite awkwardly. The text is just high enough that you can see the top of it when tucked into bottoms and looks quite unflattering when left untucked, so it’s a bit of a lose-lose situation. Today, I will be showing you how I like to style these types of tops so they look less bin bag and more Blair Waldorf!

Outfit #1

For the first outfit, I paired the top with a pink pleated skirt to create a monochromatic look. I tucked the back of the jumper into by skirt to create a defined waistline and also did the same to the front, however I pulled the fabric slightly so that you can see the text clearly. You can use any pair of bottoms as I will show you in the next look, but I really like how it has a very feminine feel because they are both pink. You can recreate this by styling the top with a pair of bottoms of the same colour.

Outfit #2

If skirts aren’t your style, then look no further! I paired the jumper with some corduroy jeans for another monochrome look. It’s just as feminine as the last one, however the trousers are warmer and will be perfect for chilly weather. I, again, used the same technique to tuck the jumper in as before and this will be great if your pants aren’t as tight as you would like them, as the material hides any extra fabric. This one is a really comfy go-to look, and is really easy to throw on in a rush (no throwing if it’s cashmere!).

Outfit #3

For this look, I decided to go for a menswear inspired outfit. I layered the jumper over an oversized shirt (embroidered with skiers!) for a relaxed style, which also complements the top nicely, as you can see the design in its full glory. I also added a trench coat to the outfit, and because of its unisex nature, it adds to the masculine effect. You can tie the belt on the coat as well, so that your waist doesn’t get lost. Layering is the key to a perfect winter wardrobe in my opinion, because you get to look stylish and nice and toasty at the same time, and this is a really good example of it. If you are worried about looking too masculine, you can simply wear some girly colours such as pinks, lilacs, or baby blues that I have done here and it will juxtapose the effect and inject some femininity into your outfit. This has to be my favourite outfit of them all, and I will most certainly be sporting this look for the autumn/winter season!

Outfit #4

I chose to add a pair of paper bag khaki trousers that complements the top and sinches in the waist. The detailing on the pants just about covers the text, however it is still visible so I recommend you use the same fabric pulling technique as before if this off puts you. You can wear any pair of trousers you own, but preferably ones that are a different colour to your top, as this will have a striking and eye catching effect.

In conlcusion

I hope I gave you some helpful tips and tricks on how to style a graphic top in this post, and that you enjoyed reading. As always, feel free to change the colours I describe here to fit with your top (and your aesthetic). Thank you so much for reading and supporting me, I will welcome any suggestions, shares and comments you may leave. And remember – it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it!

Five versatile outfits from a single dress

As we all know, fashion is expensive. So I want to make sure that we get the most wear out of our pieces as possible. And just remember – it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it!

This is the dress I will be styling today!

How to pick the dress

If you already have the dress in mind hanging in your wardrobe, then feel free to skip past this section. If not, then let me share with you the list of key things that the dress has to have in order for me to part with my money:

  • Must be able to have a t-shirt/ blouse layered underneath
  • Must be dressy enough to wear out at night and casual enough to wear throughout the day
  • Must be able to be worn in the summer and with a pair of tights/ leggings in the winter
  • Must match with at least three t-shirts/blouses in my wardrobe

Outfit #1

I chose to dress down the outfit for everyday wear in the summer by pairing it with a plain white fitted t-shirt. I feel that it compliments the dress (as do all the other options ahead) as it ties in with the one of the colours in the fabric. This would be an outfit that would flatter anyone and a white t-shirt is a staple that is very likely to be in your wardrobe. If not, there are lots of options available on the market and you will most certainly find one in every clothes shop you look in. When purchasing a t – shirt, always look for ones made of 100% cotton, as these will last you the longest and will also be very comfortable. Otherwise, you can always borrow it off your mum, sister or friend (and then never give it back!).

Outfit #2

For the second outfit, I chose to pair the dress with a high neck black t-shirt for an perfect go-to option. The high neck of the top makes it seem slightly more dressy and I personally think it would be perfect for a party or night out when paired with a heel. The black also makes the outfit seem more cold weather appropriate (worn with a pair of tights/ leggings of course!) and adds to the formal look. You can wear this with any kind of black t-shirt you own, though I prefer to go with a more contrasting boxy, oversized fit.

Outfit #3

I paired the dress with a white blouse for chic and sophisticated look. A white blouse is a classic and will always look polished, so pairing it with the dress is a no-brainer. I went with a unusual ‘bobble’ effect shirt to make it slightly different, but you can wear whatever white blouse you own. If you don’t have one, then you may want to consider purchasing, as it is a key wardrobe staple.

Outfit #4

I am again sporting the same shirt as in the previous outfit (shuuuush don’t tell anyone!), however I am rolling the sleeves up and popping the collar so that it mixes it up an changes the look of the whole outfit, despite it being the exact same as the first one! I think this is a perfect going out outfit, as it is very attractive and shows off the collarbone (proven to be one of the most attractive places on the body) without showing any cleavage (but if you like that, then that’s fine too!).

Outfit #5

In this outfit, I am wearing a white roll neck top which makes it warmer and a whole lot more stylish. I must admit – this has to be my favourite item of the lot! I just love the chanelesque feeling this gives off, as well as the warmth for when it starts to get chilly outside. These types of tops are pretty common to find during the colder seasons, so have a little look around and you may find one in your price range.

Other Options

Although I have not styled it here, it is also perfect to wear the dress just as it is! You may want to avoid this if it was made to be a pinafore dress and not worn alone. I also think that black roll necks are a really good option/alternative to the white if you would like another outfit or are always spilling food on white tops (spaghetti anyone?).

In conclusion

Dresses that can be styled with layers underneath are a great option for those of us that like to experiment or change up the look slightly so we never get bored of a piece we used our hard earned money on. All of the colours I have referenced here are just a guideline, feel free to change them to suit your dress and signature colours.

I would also like to say a big thank you for reading my first ever blog post! I couldn’t be more appreciative of your support. Feel free to share, leave comments and suggestions and remember – it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it!
